West Forgotten Isles
West Forgotten Isles was an island in the Forgotten Isles, but is now a part of Modern day Autarchia due to the political and geological changes precipitated by the Mayhem Incident.
West Forgotten Isles was a global power and the biggest regional rival to East Forgotten Isles. It is a historic player on the global scene, having a vast navy for centuries. Beyond its strategic positioning in the Central Atlantic Ocean, West Forgotten Isles also has abundant mineral and crude oil resources, vast plains of viable farmland, thick forests whose wood was highly sought after for its resilience in ship and house building. The capitol stretched out for miles under the shadow of the highest mountains, whose base held historic iron mines that have historically allowed West Forgotten Isles its dominance in the markets and on the battlefield.
It was only recently determined that the Great Mountain shadowing the great capitol city in the eastern plains was actually a long dormant volcano, only recently had they uncovered evidence of past volcanism, thanks largely in part to a joint research mission conducted with East Forgotten Isles.
History of the Isles
In 792, the Forgotten Isles were first discovered by Vikings explorers. By 808, East Forgotten Isles was colonized. In 812 the first settlements on West Forgotten Isles began to appear. From the 800s to 1200s the Isles would experience boom and bust growth, leaving a sprawling population with little resource in the East and the vast majority of the population in the West as that is where the fertile farmland and natural resources were..
During the 1200s the first Democracy would form in East Forgotten Isles, while the West would retain a feudal system during this time. Sometime in the 1300s a effusive volcanic eruption destroys much of the populations, both civilizations were destroyed and only a few survivors remained, mostly on East Forgotten Isles as it was on the outer edges of the lava flows.
The Isles would remain pretty quiet until the 1700s, when colonization by European powers begins. Their seat of power is in West Forgotten Isles, on the west of of the Eastern Plains. After years of colonial domination, in 1832 the Isles citizenry had had quite enough. They expelled colonial forces by force and declared Independence. The two democracies of East Forgotten Isles and West Forgotten Isles were formed in response to the threat of invasion by the expelled powers.
1858 began with the First Shoal War, East vs West Forgotten Isles, resulting in victory for the West and unfair terms for the East. Years of inequality in trade and diplomacy between the two results in the Second Shoal War in 1901, a brutal war that scorched both countries. The East took a worse hit overall, but was able to effect enough destruction in the West to cause them to sue for peace. Thus the Treaty of Mutual Respect and Assistance was signed, which would dominate political discourse between the two countries for the next century.
In 2007, the Great Southern Atlantic Quake devastates West Forgotten Isles, East assists with grassroots effort providing quick support to the affected areas, per the terms of the Treaty of Mutual Respect and Assistance.
in 2013, East Atlantic Tsunami precipitates the Mayhem Incident, culminating in total devastation for West Forgotten Isles in response to their belligerence. The two Isles would be now geographically and politically connected, and the Kingdom of Autarchia was formed to reflect the political and geological changes. At this point, West Forgotten Isles was annexed, ceasing to exist as its own separate nation.
